Managing Director and Northeast Region Head
Mr. Gies is responsible for Bessemer’s business development operations in the Northeast United States including the Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Wilmington, and Woodbridge offices. Prior to joining Bessemer, Mr. Gies was Head of Neuberger Berman Wealth Management. Before moving to New York, Mr. Gies spent two years as a Senior Vice President and Director of the Southeast region in Neuberger Berman’s Tampa office.
Mr. Gies began his career in the industry in 1997 at Bernstein Global Wealth Management (previously Bernstein Investment Research and Management). During his eight years at Bernstein, he worked as a financial advisor in the San Francisco office and later went on to open and manage the firm office in Seattle. Additionally, Mr. Gies worked as a Managing Director in Bernstein’s Washington, DC, office and as a financial advisor in the Tampa office.
Prior to joining the financial services industry, Mr. Gies spent nine years in the United States Navy where, as a Naval Flight Officer, he flew F-14 Tomcats and completed two six-month deployments to the Persian Gulf in support of Operations Desert Storm and Southern Watch. Between 1994 and 1997, he taught Naval History at Jacksonville University’s Naval ROTC Unit.
Mr. Gies graduated (with honors) from the University of Florida with a degree in Industrial Systems Engineering and holds an MBA from Jacksonville University.
